ALL ABOUT SWEET FUTURES

Our History

Initially setup over 10 years ago by inspirational Head Teacher, Debbie Withers, The Shop has helped countless young people take their learning out of the school environment and apply skills in a meaningful way.

Debbie, awarded an MBE by HRH Queen Elizabeth II, had a vision for the young people in her care – Real Business, Real Customers & Real Opportunities. Taking the traditional classroom into the community and giving young people with additional needs the best possible opportunity to learn practical skills in a truly meaningful way.
This remains a key focus of Sweet Futures and The Shop today.

The Management Team

In 2019, The Shop faced closure due to budgetary constraints and that’s where Claire Scott came in. Claire had worked in The Shop since it’s inception and was not about to let it close! Along with her partner Geoff Littlewood, Claire approached the school and agreed to take on The Shop as a going concern.

Since then, The Shop has continued to thrive, welcoming young people with additional needs from local schools and colleges as well as increasing the number of placements available for young adults with personal budgets. The Shop now provides a clear pathway for young adults, bridging the gap between School/College and the world of work.

Our Future

Our amazing staff team has also grown and we now have a very experienced team of dedicated individuals. Beween us all, we have over 50 years of education and business experience!

We are all passionate about promoting independence and teaching valuable life skills to young people, using meaningful and practical experiences in a real work environment.

We want everybody who comes to The Shop to feel valued, confident, self-assured and reach their full potential.
